Establish control over the situation, BNP told the government

BNP has called on the interim government to establish control over the current situation in the country. The party stated that if this is not done, it will lead to an expansion of anarchy in the country.

BNP made these statements in a press release sent to the media on Thursday night. The press release was sent by the party's Senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

After the vandalism at Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house at 32 Dhanmondi, the first reports of vandalism came from the "Sheikh Bari" in Khulna on Wednesday night. Following that, the house of Awami League central leader Mahbubul Alam Hanif in Kushtia was attacked. In the past two days, at least 33 homes and businesses of former President Abdul Hamid, Awami League central leaders, former ministers, and MPs have been attacked, vandalized, and set on fire. At least fifty murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and members of the Sheikh family have been destroyed. Vandalism and arson were carried out at eight Awami League offices.

BNP's statement reads, "We are deeply concerned as the provocative actions of the fallen, defeated, fugitive autocrat and his associates, along with obscene and objectionable comments about the bloody student uprising of July-August, have aroused intense anger and resentment among the people. As a result, visible public enthusiasm has led to the destruction of the memories, statues, monuments, and nameplates of the fallen autocrat in Dhaka and other parts of the country last Wednesday."

BNP's concern is that if the government fails to control the emerging situation, the stability of the state and government will be at risk. In such a scenario, the possibility of a resurgence of extremist anarchists and anti-democratic domestic and foreign forces, as well as the defeated fascists, may arise, signs of which are already visible.

The statement further says, "The current interim government has failed to take effective visible steps to bring the fugitive autocrat and his associates under the law in the past six months. As a result, people are being encouraged to engage in illegal activities, taking the law into their own hands. While a government is in place, if the people take the law into their own hands like this, it could tarnish the image of the government both domestically and internationally. However, according to the aspirations of the July student uprising, people expected the rule of law to be re-established, which should have been a top priority for the current government. Now, various classes and professions of people, with their demands, are creating public distress on the streets through "mob culture," and the government has failed to show astuteness in taking appropriate actions."

BNP's statement also mentions the need for state assistance for the families of martyrs from the July-August student uprising, proper medical treatment and rehabilitation for the injured, ensuring swift justice for the fugitive autocrat and his associates, and taking effective measures to prevent the provocative activities of defeated fascists. However, there has been no visible or significant progress in these matters.

BNP's statement concludes by saying, "The administration has still not been freed from the influence of the fallen fascist regime. Fascist sympathizers are still present in the judiciary, and active members against the student uprising are still working in the police administration. In such a situation, it raises significant doubts about whether the government will be able to fulfill the people's aspirations."
