India's loss if relationship breaks down: shipping adviser

"If India tries to create communal instability in Bangladesh, they won’t remain safe either": Dr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain

Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. Md. Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Labor and Employment, has warned that if India attempts to create communal unrest in Bangladesh, it will not be beneficial for them either. He emphasized that Bangladesh is a country of 180 million people, and some Indian media and political parties are doing this to gain votes. He stated that this is their own business.

He made these comments on Tuesday (December 3) during an inspection of the multipurpose jetty at the BIWTA BRWTP-1 project in the Number 5 Fish Market area of Narayanganj, while speaking to the media.

Sakhawat Hossain further said, "I believe that if the relationship with India deteriorates, it will be a loss for India, not for us. If they want to quarrel by trampling on our feet, it is not a good sign for a neighboring country. The relationship between the two countries should be good. If Bangladesh becomes unstable, they will not be able to remain at peace either."

He also stated, "The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Shipping will provide full support to prevent pollution in all rivers, including the Shitalakshya. Effective measures will be taken soon through the River Protection Commission to stop river encroachment. However, when we try to take action against big encroachers, there are obstacles."

Regarding the country's economy, he highlighted that there is a major conspiracy to close down the garment industry, which is a key sector of the economy. He said, "Those garment factories that have closed down—it's not the workers' fault. The government is aware of the type of conspiracy happening." He also mentioned that for the garment factories that are burdened with loans or whose owners are untraceable, instructions will be given next week to address these issues.
