Cows and lakhs of taka looted at gunpoint on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway

On Saturday, December 7, at around 3:30 AM, a robbery incident occurred at the western end of Road No. 4 in Sector 4 of Uttara East Thana, near the entrance to Dhaka on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, just beneath the Jasim Uddin Flyover. A group of five unidentified robbers in an unregistered Mahindra pickup truck stopped a two-ton pickup truck carrying 11 cows. They threatened the cattle traders with local weapons, including large machetes and cleavers, and forcibly took them to their vehicle. One of the traders was severely injured, with a deep machete wound on his left wrist, while another trader was struck on the head. The robbers also looted a sum of 383,400 BDT from the traders.

Hearing the traders’ cries for help, Sub-Inspector Subol Chandra Pal, who was on duty with Mobile-96, quickly arrived at the scene with his team. As they tried to apprehend the robbers, the criminals threw pieces of bricks at the police and fled the scene on foot. However, with the swift intervention of the Officer-in-Charge of Uttara East Police Station, the Investigation Officer, and other police personnel, the robbers' unregistered Mahindra pickup, along with their weapons, including machetes, cleavers, ropes, tarpaulins, black bags, broken bricks (9 pieces), and 11 cows worth 873,500 BDT, were recovered. The stolen vehicle was also seized.

An investigation is ongoing, and legal action is being taken in connection with the incident.
