
The UAE government has released 75 Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested for protesting in support of the anti-discrimination student movement. With this release, a total of 188 individuals have been freed by the UAE authorities.
The information was shared by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sarwar Alam, in a Facebook post on Friday (November 29).
In the post, he wrote, "In response to the marches and protests against the killings and oppression of students and the public in July-August 2024, the UAE government has pardoned 75 more expatriate Bangladeshis today. With this, the UAE government has released a total of 188 individuals so far."
Earlier, on September 3, during a briefing, the Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, mentioned that the President of the UAE had spoken with the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh on August 28 over the phone.
During the conversation, a significant portion of the discussion focused on the issue of the pardon for 57 Bangladeshis. The Chief Adviser had requested the UAE President to forgive the expatriate workers, and the President honored this request. The Chief Adviser received the good news about the release.
