Hotel ban on Bangladeshi citizens in Tripura withdrawn

Amid fears of business losses, the hotel and restaurant owners' association in Tripura has announced the lifting of the hotel ban imposed on Bangladeshi citizens.

On Thursday (December 5), the All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association (ATHROA) issued a notice stating that they will now provide hospitality to Bangladeshi nationals holding medical visas in their hotels and restaurants.

Earlier, on Monday (December 2), the Tripura Hotel Owners Association had announced a ban on Bangladeshi citizens staying at hotels in Tripura. They had instructed the hotels to put up posters at the front desks to enforce the ban and had also ordered stricter security checks.

It is worth noting that Bangladeshi nationals had been the primary customers for the hotel business in Tripura. However, following the ongoing protests in Bangladesh over the alleged desecration of the national flag, the hotel owners in Tripura had imposed this ban as a response.

The rationale behind lifting the ban, according to the association, is that they are attempting to strike the right balance between national sensitivity and hospitality. In the notice, they stated, "We are ready to welcome Bangladeshi nationals holding medical visas to our hotels. Their accommodation and services will be ensured."

Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in Kolkata has also clarified that there is no question of halting medical services for Bangladeshi patients. The association emphasized that in the medical profession, nationality, religion, or country does not matter—patients come first.

In this context, efforts are now underway in Tripura to restore coordination between the peoples of the two countries and facilitate business activities once again.
